Introduction
Hi, I’m John McDermott, a seasoned business leader with over 30 years of experience in finance, of which the past 20 years has been in CFO positions within privately held, private equity funded and venture funded organizations. My career started in public accounting where I gained my CPA qualification and worked with a wide range of entities, from small nonprofits to publicly traded multinational corporations, and industries as diverse as television to ISP, oil and gas to manufacturing. As a CFO I have built accounting, human resource, information technology and treasury teams from the ground up, implemented ERP systems and built financial reporting frameworks, managed complex credit facilities and facilitated global expansion. Throughout my career I have always been drawn to the operational aspects of each business, understanding the technology, customers, supply chain and marketplace as these are the factors that will ultimately drive the financial success of the organization. I have worked closely with sales and operations leadership to understand the pressures and challenges they face and use my abilities to help them achieve their objectives. Through developing the respect and trust of the people tasked with operating the business I have successfully bridged the gap to finance.
